Nowadays, optical discs are still very popular, especially DVDs, despite the fact they are very old and fragile. That's because they are very cheap and can store a reasonable amount of data. But at the same time, the development in technology made hard disks become bigger and bigger in size and lower in price. As such, a typical hard disk is equal to hundreds of CDs and DVDs.
